Ramadan :: Finding Fresh Inspiration for Cooking

Hello lovelies!
First of all I would like to wish you all Ramadan Kareem and may it be a month filled with blessings, serenity and happiness. With the holy month of Ramadan upon us, we are once again blessed with the opportunity to foster a sense of self-awareness and reflect on our lives. Ramadan offers time to grow for the better and focus on the spiritual aspects of our day-to-day lives.

That said, Ramadan is also known for family gatherings, which reinforces the sense of family quality time and keeping ties strong with relatives and friends. In the Middle East and GCC, these gatherings are filled with home-cooked meals, delicious appetizers and exquisite desserts.
Here are a few of my favorite sources of inspiration for cooking:

"For every delicious meal, there is a recipe"

As much as I 'love' western/international cookbooks, I feel - as a Lebanese full-time mom and housewife - that it is essential to go back to one's roots and from there develop one's own recipes; a fusion blending the best of both worlds.
When Suzanne Cooks portrays exactly that! A modern twist on Arabia's flavours...
Her book is definitely a keeper. I even had the chance to meet her and watch her cooking demo LIVE. And the food was delish!
I would also highly recommend Sit Beit ma' Leyla ("Housewife with Leyla") if you want to show off your cooking skills to your guests. Some classics in middle eastern cuisine made easy! Also a keeper. The cookbooks I have shown you here are essential to any Middle Eastern woman keen on cooking and dazzling her family and friends with back to basics, classics and fusion meals, all fragrant with that flair of Arabia and the Levant.
Another book I would recommend is Plated Heirlooms, which I previously talked about on the blog. An exploration of Palestinian food and culture... A must-read!
I remember when I first got married, the first cookbook I got into was "Alif Baa al-Tabkh al-Muasa", which in my opinion is a great cookbook for beginners. Once you've acquired all the basics, plunge yourself into Sufrat Anahid al-Shahia (also available in English as Anahid's Gourmet Cookbook) and Matbakh Manal al-Alim which are two must-haves in your cookbooks library :)
If you are not too keen on books, there is always the internet of course!
Who is our leading and only cooking channel in the region. It is Fatafeat!
They have a huge online directory of recipes and even how-to videos!

Well, I hope you found some inspiration in this collection.
Wishing you a blessed Ramadan and delicious iftars!
